Farm Walk, Talk 'n Gawk April 2014
On Sunday the 13th April 2014, we ventured to the MacAulay property at Stacey's Bridge for a Walk,Talk and gawk hosted by Sue and David MacAulay.
The MaCaulay property is a large dairy farm on the southern foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges. Sue and David have fenced off several areas of remnant bush. These areas had previously been grazed however it was good to see the natural undergrowth has returned without intervention. David and Sue have heard lyrebirds in one these areas recently which is good sign that the bush has "recovered". There was evidence of ample wildlife using the areas also - wallaby, kangaroo, wombat, skinks, echidna. Several fungi and birds were sighted and in particular a crested shrike-tit, not often seen in the area. All the indications of a healthy ecosystem.
We also visited the Albert River (abutting the property) showing the successful revegetation works carried out on its banks. The day was finished with a cup of tea and some of Sue's lovely baked cakes.
Thanks indeed to Sue and David for their hospitality on the day.
